Twenty Question Tuesday

In your eyes, what’s Paradise?
For me, an afternoon spent lying in a field with my husband next to me with a summer breeze blowing over us whilst wild flowers scent the air, a picnic packed with a bottle of wine too, looking at a huge blue sky with white fluffy clouds floating by, daydreaming & not having a care in the world.

Prized Possession
Ouch this is a toughie, can I say my husband or does that not count?

Favourite medium to work with and why?
I have done so much crafting over the last 12 years & made pretty gemstone jewellery for many years which I loved but over the last few years my favourite crafts have been when I am painting things, like chalkboards, letters & signs.

Flowers or chocolate?
Can I be greedy and have both? I do love yellow flowers though ~ yellow roses & yellow tulips are my favourite.

Who influenced you the most?
I think in my love of vintage style & vintage home-making my Nana influenced me the most & I spent a lot of my childhood being with her but in my general life it is my husband, ever since I met him he has been a wonderful creative influence & also gives me so much confidence to try things, dreams are never too big to dream & he is constantly encouraging & supportive in anything I do.

Who would you most like to go to Dinner with?
Oooh another toughie, mmmmm I think I will have to say the rather delicious Julian McMahon ~ but don’t tell my husband!

Top Cat or Banana Splits?
Banana Splits, ooohh I used to love this show!

Today I wore:
A pair of skinny jeans with a huge roll up, a pale blue vintage style flowery dress over the top with a little aqua vest top underneath that & a pretty thin jade puffy sleeve cardigan over the top.

RomCom or Horror flick, explain your choice
Mmmm depends on the mood I’m in, I must admit I’m not a great lover of Romcoms in general & don’t like the really horrid gruesome horrors but I do love a good thriller/edge of your seat horror.

What inspired you to do what you do?
I am so in love with pretty homes & when we moved into the house we are in now which is an old Victorian with pretty open fireplaces, sash windows & beautiful cornice I wanted to decorate it in a pretty soft vintage style & my love of homewares & accessories completely took over my life. I made some things, I upcycled others & love it so much I decided to start selling homewares that I had painted/upcycled into shabby vintage style lovelies alongside handcrafted hearts & garlands which I sold at craft fairs, on Ebay & my own website, then it just grew & grew from there!

McDreamy or McSteamy?
Mmmmm I don’t actually watch Greys Anatomy anymore but I would have to say McSteamy, now if you were to ask me to choose between the lovely Supernatural boys that would be a really hard one to answer! *giggle*

If you could do anything else, what would it be?
I think I would love to be a photographer, I really do love taking photos. I also studied performing arts when I was at college & University & although I don’t think I would like to go back to acting I did love doing set design & costume design & so if I had the confidence I think I would love to do one of these jobs too.

Favourite item of clothing
Oh I don’t think I have one, do PJ’s count? I am quite obsessed about pretty, comfy PJ’s! If shoes count I have a really pretty baby pink pair with a frill on the front from the strap downwards & they always make me feel so pretty & feminine when I wear them.

Best childhood memory
Spending time with my bestest friend in all the world! We were inseparable, the only day we didn’t see each other was Christmas Day when we had to spend it with our families! Pah!

Our parents were friends & she used to sleep over at my house every Friday & I used to sleep at her house on a Saturday ~ those years together were so wonderful.

Most cringe-worthy moment
Oh this was just horrendous for me! It was in the 90’s & I had just bought a wonderful thin fabric ankle length black coat (see I told you it was the 90’s & I was such a Goth!) & I was travelling down an escalator in a shopping centre & just as I was reaching the bottom my coat got caught in the side & was pulled into the escalator!!!

The whole thing stopped & I had to tell the people behind me to try & find someone for me to help me! Oh it was so embarrassing as I was by myself & I had to stand there whilst everyone who had got on behind me & everyone who came afterwards had to walk past me to get off as I was stood holding my coat with the bottom of it sucked into the escalator! Someone who worked in the shopping centre did finally come (after what felt like about 7 years) & after a while managed to pull it out but the coat was ruined & I was feeling pretty rotten myself!

Favourite holiday destination
I’m not sure I have a favourite holiday destination; I do love holidays in general! Over the last few years I’ve really, really enjoyed visiting a friend of ours that worked in Hamburg, he is a doctor of particle physics & worked in an amazing place that we even got to visit. He now works at Cern in Geneva (familiar to those who have read the Dan Brown book based there) but lives just over the border in France so I’m sure we will be visiting him there very soon! I think holiday’s with family & friends can be the most amazingly fun holidays full of fantastic memories.

Which celebrity would you have as your best friend and why
I think this would have to be Drew Barrymore, she seems so genuine & sweet & really down to earth too. We are the same age & I think we would have so much girly fun & giggles together.

Best “crafty” tip you can offer
Try as many different crafts as you can!

What’s your Star sign?
Scorpio.

What would you most like to see happen next?
I think in terms of Vintage Amethyst & my husband too we need to find commercial property to work from & move the businesses out of our home! James is an artist & we both work from home which of course is lovely but the two businesses are taking over our home & our life in general which can be quite stressful at time.

We both need that space between work & home life so that it perhaps would help us relax more, it is far too easy to do ‘one more thing’ before finishing & then you realise when you do finish & start to make dinner it’s 9pm! We both have said that we need to work together though, as I think it can get quite lonely too working alone so trying to find somewhere that can accommodate Vintage Amethyst & an artist is proving to be quite difficult!!!

I would also really love to open a pretty shop too & I’m always imagining decorating it all & how things would be displayed, but seeing how busy the Vintage Amethyst online boutique keeps me I’m not sure that is going to happen for a while yet ...

Vintage Amethyst is the gorgeous contributor to Twenty Question Tuesday this week....her blog is not something you want to miss out on, she has the most beautiful, dreamy and "must-have" items for sale.....thanks Alison! ;o)
