Wish List :o)

A day late thanks to a dreaded cold virus ~ this week's wishes are purely materialistic but, nonetheless important, especially as Christmas is fast approaching!!!!!

A Shiny Cooker
have been "making do" for the last few months after the bottom oven went pop
now the grill in the top oven is wilting!!
There's no room to cook a turkey!
Me no like the thought of Beans on Toast for Christmas Dinner!!
:oO

A Dishwasher
another thing I have been doing since Christmas last year is washing all my dishes by hand
while my dishwasher sits in the corner refusing to work
too expensive to fix and too expensive to replace
what else can you do except wash by hand!!! pah!

Twenty Question Tuesday

In your eyes, what’s Paradise?
Paradise would have to be someone to do my housework for me, no money worries and a healthy happy family.

Prized Possession
My first instinct was to say my son but he's not a possession. So I'll say my hardrive that contains all my artwork.

Favourite medium to work with and why?
Photoshop, I create my artwork outside of my computer in the old fashioned way and use Photoshop as a tool to enhance, I love the undo button and the creative possibilities are endless.

Flowers or chocolate?
Flowers, my husband is seriously allergic so flowers are a rare thing in my house.

Who influenced you the most?
My husband ~ we met at art college and never hold back on opinions of each other’s work. He introduced me to a lot of the techniques I use, he's also my photoshop guru. I'm also heavily influenced by Japanese craft and Kawaii, I would love to go there someday.

Who would you most like to go to Dinner with?
My family - good times.

Top Cat or Banana Splits?
Banana Splits gotta love that theme tune!

Today I wore:
Embroidered top, waistcoat, beads, flared jeans, plaster cast (pink) and one flip flop.

Do you have a favourite online {bead, craft or textile} place to shop and would recommend
I love Fabric Rehab, I originally studied costume design and worked in the theatre for years and I'm completely addicted to the stuff they sell there. I also like Bunny Zoe's for craft supplies and also because they sell rubber stamps designed by me (plug plug)

What inspired you to do what you do?
My mum always made handmade cards (still does). I always tagged alone with her to craft fairs and used to make tiny flower pots for dolls houses to sell on her stall. She always made so many friends from doing her craft and when I had my son I wanted that same creative outlet. Max is only 3 but he already makes his own cards called Max's Monsters.

McDreamy or McSteamy?
Oh dear neither, can I have Sawyer from Lost instead. Woof!! hehehehe

If you could do anything else, what would it be?
Sell up, by a VW campervan and live a nomadic lifestyle, I would still draw though.

Favourite item of clothing
My pair of purple, red or dead shoes soooooooo comfy.

Best childhood memory
Family holidays in Dorset where my parents would take us on adventures and we would pretend to be the famous five!!! We even had Timmy the dog and picnics were a must.

Most cringe-worthy moment
Oh the shame!! I can't believe I'm going to admit this. Stopping at the village store on the way home I jumped out of my car slammed the door shut and locked the keys inside. Unfortunately as I did this I also managed to trap the very flarey leg of my trousers in the door, so found myself completely stuck. The lady in the shop cut me free and I had to run home with a huge hole in my trousers to get the spare key.

Favourite holiday destination
Madeira ~ we had a wonderful holiday there once, I would love to go back.

Which celebrity would you have as your best friend and why
I think Rupert Everett would make a great best friend, I imagine we could have a proper giggle together and cause some mischief.

Best “crafty” tip you can offer
Gosh that's a tricky one. Erm keep your scissors and punches sharp by cutting tin foil!!!

What’s your Star sign?
Leo, I'm pretty true to my sign with a mane of hair, a big heart and a fiery temper.

What would you most like to see happen next?
I would like to see Little Bird Too continue to grow, I'm launching on Not on the High Street this month and now have cards stocked in 8 shops.

Thank you to the gorgeous Little Bird Too for taking part in this week's 20 questions ~ fab answers....I too dream of a VW campervan and travelling all over.....dreams eh?

Movie Magic!

Sean Penn

Today I watched Milk

Sean Penn takes the lead role in this amazing film following the journey of political gay activist Harvey Milk.  The film concentrates on a 40 year old Milk who, having found someone to share his life, moves out of New York to San Francisco and his subsequent move into political life.

Milk sets up residence and opens a camera shop in the Castro district of San Francisco and fights for the civil rights of gays and lesbians, he is eventually elected as the first openly gay man to public office in California.

Milk, who was in office for almost a year, was responsible for a number of gay rights ordinance being passed for the city.  He often clashed heads with another Supervisor, Dan White, who was a staunch Conservative.

{the real Harvey Milk}

In 1978 Dan White, having resigned his position as Supervisor and subsequently changing his mind with no positive outcome of gaining his seat back, assassinated both Mayor George Moscone and Harvey Milk.

I love films of real events like this, it highlights lives that we probably would not have heard about and opens our minds to the struggles of others......it also makes you wonder......what would have happened if he had lived.

I have only seen a few films with Penn in but find he always manages to pick the really important, thought provoking ones.

Penn won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Milk, quite right too! ;o)

And the Moral of the Story is.......

Do you remember me telling you about this piece of gorgeous-ness?

{Aloha}

A Giveaway by Cindy Wimmer at Sweet Bead Studio resulted in me winning!  Yes, I know....amazing!  It's such a gorgeous piece and will be a constant reminder of the beach......a place that I love!

Cindy posted the piece to me within the week and my count down of sleeps before it arrived began.....I was SO excited to receive it, it felt a bit like the countdown to Christmas.

Coming all the way from the States it arrived within two weeks but instead of receiving the gorgeous package I received a card telling me there was a hitch with delivery and that I needed to pay a custom charge....well, to say I was disappointed was an understatement, this would mean I would have to wait longer to get my hands on my prize! :o(

A quick email to Cindy just to let her know the package had arrived but was "vacation-ing" with Royal Mail for a few more days resulted in Cindy telling me that she had never encountered a custom charge before but that her husband had gone to the post office for her on that occassion.......so a little detective work on my part at Royal Mail led me to the "problem"....the "Gift" box on the custom label that's attached to the package had been overlooked and wasn't ticked.

A conversation here and there and a letter explaining everything to the UK Borders Agency led to the charges being cancelled and...finally....the package being delivered.....yaaaay!

Here is the package I received yesterday

and here is the gorgeous-ness that was inside

*sigh*

so the moral of the story is check everything....then double check! :o)

thank you Cindy, I love my new acquisition! :o)

Twenty Question Tuesday

In your eyes, what’s Paradise?
A happy, contented family, food in our bellies, warm sun on our faces and huge smiles all round, simple.

Prized Possession
My gorgeous family (and my mobile phone).

Favourite medium to work with and why?
No surprises here, it’s got to be felt. I love all the colours it comes in, the texture and especially it’s ‘no fray’ ability, it’s so incredibly versatile.

Flowers or chocolate?
That’s a toughie, but if I was receiving it as a gift, I’d have to say flowers as I’d just love a big bunch of peonies in the kitchen to greet me every morning, of course they don’t taste as good as choccie.

Who influenced you the most?
The blogoshere! I am influenced by all the amazing artists out there who inspire me to do the very best I can and keep on improving and trying new things.

Who would you most like to go to Dinner with?
I’d have to take a bunch of my gal pals, we don’t get out much so any opportunity must be grabbed! Failing that, Robert Pattinson (but as Edward) would have to do, sorry hubby!

Top Cat or Banana Splits?
He's the most tip top, Top Cat.

Today I wore:
Ugh! Very dull today, black jeans, black tunic top and little black cardy – it’s been a black kind of day. (But with blue sandals!).

Do you have a favourite online {bead, craft or textile} place to shop and would recommend
I love craftyribbons.com, they have such an array of designs and really reasonably priced grab bags.

What inspired you to do what you do?
I’m hugely inspired by my children and their friends. When the girls were babies (they are 4 and 6 now) I was inspired to make Name Banners and Letter Hangers as gifts for friends and their little newborns. Then as hair grew longer the idea of The Hair Tidy was born, followed by wobbly teeth and the Tooth Monster was created and as they grow older I’m making more hair accessories than ever.

McDreamy or McSteamy?
It’s got to be McDreamy all the way please!

If you could do anything else, what would it be?
I’d love my own coffee and crafting shop, two of my favourite things. I’d offer creative courses for young and old, selling local artists’ wares and drinking lattes whilst scoffing cupcakes. Bliss.

Favourite item of clothing
Slippers! Mine are so soft.

Best childhood memory
Riding my bike for hours up and down the quiet roads near my home without a care in the world and playing outside in a small patch of woodland in my road, we made dens out of the branches and the scent of a fir tree still sends me straight back there.

Most cringe-worthy moment
Many years ago I tried to give myself a home lip wax, but I managed to pull off most of my skin and was left with a scab moustache for days, I’d have preferred the hairy lip! Eeeek.

Favourite holiday destination
Prior to finding felt, my job for over 10 years was in Travel and the destination that has left a lasting impression on me was Alaska, it was incredible.

Which celebrity would you have as your best friend and why
Alan Carr – he would be great fun and have me in stitches all day. No pun intended.

Best “crafty” tip you can offer
Keep a notebook with you at all times and whenever you have an idea write it down, I even keep one by my bed. I have pages full of lists, ideas and sketches, I must admit I’m nowhere near trying them all out but it also enables me to indulge in buying pretty notebooks and when I’m stuck for inspiration I go back through the pages and always find what I’m looking for.

What’s your Star sign?
Sagittarius.

What would you most like to see happen next?
I really would like my own crafting space, at the moment it goes where I go, the sofa, the kitchen table, I even take it round to friends’ houses whilst the kids are playing with their friends.

We do have a small box room that isn’t being used for anything other than a dumping ground, so I need to de-clutter it big time. My poor hubby does have an ‘office area’ shoe-horned in amongst all the boxes but I can see it all painted white and decked out in Billy Bookcases and work surfaces.

Also, much to my embarrassment, I sew every day by hand but have yet to master a sewing machine. I really want to learn how to use one and increase my output. My youngest will be at school all day as of November and I’m hoping that will give me much needed extra hours for me to stitch the day away, again increasing my output and possibly take on some more wholesale orders. I really want to make this my full time job, otherwise I’ll be back in an office somewhere working 9-5.

So all of that and of course, world peace.

OOoooo yes, notebooks!!!! I buy them ALL the time to write my lists....but end up not writing them! haha! They are too pretty and don't want to have to use them up!

Loving the insight today from Marie Kitchen of Heartfelt Handmade....please, please check out her blog ~ she has some cute little monsters to share! ;o)

Thanks for taking part Marie!

Movie Magic!

Susan Sarandon

Susan Sarandon is one of my favourite females actors, she is

sassy
smart
sexy
sensual
strong

she has a real sense of conviction
both in her work and her political views

The characters she plays are so convincing and believable

Two of my favourite films are

it's a road movie whereby Thelma & Louise "escape" their turbulent and contained lives at home looking for adventure.  Along their travels they kill a rapist and end up on the run from the police, eventually leading them to take the only way out.  Geena Davis, Harvey Kietel and Brad Pitt co-star in the movie.

Sarandon plays Sister Helen Prejean, a Roman Catholic Nun who supports the abolition of the death penalty in New Orleans.
The film is based on a true story and follows Sister Prejeans journey as a spiritual adviser to a prisioner on death row ~ Matthew Poncelet {played by Sean Penn}

The film is directed by her then long term partner Tim Robbins and earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress ~ which she rightly deserved!

Susan has recently taken an ancestoral journey on the television programme Who Do You Think You Are? to discover her roots - such a fascinating journey....

A Different Kind of Mourning

For the last 10 years our summertimes have been filled with the goings on of a reality television programme called Big Brother.  For thirteen weeks of the summer we are subjected {optional} to watching a group of {ordinary}wannabees live there life contained in a house built on a car park of one of Britain's most famous and successful film studios...Elstree Studios

The "housemates" abode is fitted with many cameras and microphones dotted about the place, also within the grounds {garden} of the house, to record 24/7 every move, conversation, mishap and tantrum.

Under the watchful eye of Big Brother the "housemates" are isolated from the outside world for 13 weeks and have to take part in daily tasks in order to win prizes, a weekly shopping task to win their shopping budget for the week and also have to nominate each week on their fellow housemates to put them up for eviction, which is then put to a public vote of which housemate will actually be evicted and televised live every Friday hosted by the gorgeous Davina McCall.

Over the weeks the 15 housemates are whittled down until only four are left who are then "voted" for by the public who they want to win.....and therefore receive the cash prize, this year the amount being £100,000!  The final is televised live.

The fifteen "housemates" are from all backgrounds and usually consist of wannabees looking for their 15 minutes of fame....we have had some characters over the last ten years varying from the sublime to the ridiculus, the nasty to the hilarious, the sweet to the offensive....some have been lucky enough to gain career's in the spotlight from it and one in particular, Jade Goody, actually became the first millionaire from it!  Sadly, last year Jade lost her fight against ovarian cancer.

R.I.P.

And so, as with everything in life, it has come to an end....

Friday saw the last ever UK Big Brother, it was a big affair.  After 10 weeks of  BB11 where we saw Josie Gibson as the winner, Ultimate Big Brother took over for the remaining 3 weeks.....a number of previous BB winners and BB celebrities entered the house to chase the title of Ultimate housemate, the format was the same with tasks, shopping budgets and nominations, with the addition of even more previous housemates being part of the tasks.

The Final was on Friday {10th} and was a celebration of all the programmes over the past 10 years and was based on "The Funeral" of Big Brother.

Brian Dowling was crowned Ultimate housemate with Nikki Grahame coming 2nd and Chantelle Houghton coming 3rd.

There have been some hilarious moments over the years, some ingenius catch phrases, some really ugly moments, some emerging personalities and some who quite frankly you'd rather forget, or indeed are just very forgettable!

It's a programme you either love or hate
and I know for those who watch....it will definitely be missed.
What does Channel 4 have up it's sleeve for summer time now........

I leave you with Big Brother's Obituary
